Fall Programs at GRP

We're thrilled to announce that GRP’s fall programs begin October 11 at our new headquarters at 1428 Germantown Avenue.

soundLAB Songwriters club for girls and trans youth 13 to 18. Find lots of instruments, a practice space, mentors and other teen musicians available for jamming, collaborating, forming bands, recording, workshops and performing. Participants will be supported in strengthening their fearless creativity! First session October 11, 2016 and ongoing throughout the school year. Previous participation in GRP programs, some musical experience or ongoing music instruction is required. Tuesdays 4:30 – 6:30 pm.

youthBAND Ensemble program for girls and trans youth 9 to 12. Experience being in a band and writing music collaboratively with opportunities to perform live! First session October 12, 2016 and ongoing throughout the school year. Previous participation in GRP programs, some musical experience or ongoing music instruction is required. Wednesdays 4:30 – 6:30 pm.

safeSOUNDS Songwriting workshop for queer youth of all genders, 13 to 19. Create original music, and express yourself through lyric writing. Emphasis will be on using music to tell your story, and harnessing your own creativity to advocate for yourself and your community. Program runs Thursday, October 13 to Thursday, January 26. No musical experience required. Thursdays 4:30 – 6 pm.

Workshops Participate in workshops at GRP on a variety of topics. In our workshops, we’ll dig a little deeper into a particular element of music like loop pedals, or audio recording. We’ll also offer workshops with a social justice curriculum that explore the issues affecting youth in Philadelphia. Fall 2016 workshops will be held on the following Mondays: 10/17, 11/14 and 12/12 from 5 – 6:30 pm.

Performances GRP has ongoing performance opportunities for all GRP youth as well as regular program showcases in December and May. All students enrolled in fall programs are expected to perform in the Winter Showcase on Friday, December 16.

Gear Loan Program This program allows participants of GRP programs to rent music equipment!  Rent drum kits, electric guitars, acoustic guitars, basses, amps, instrument cables (if renting an amp) and keyboards. Gear will be rented on a first come, first served basis.

Note: This fall GRP will not be offering lessons. We have a roster of instructors who are available for private and group lessons. Please email info(at)girlsrockphilly.org for more information on instructors.
