GRP on the Road! provides music/instrument instruction, voice training, songwriting, band formation, and showcase/performance experience. We piloted this program with both Belmont and KIPP North Charter schools last fall.
GRP on the Road! Will offer a curriculum that focuses on Girls* empowerment including holistic workshops on identity as well as music instruction based upon the youth’s interests. This could look like creating a band, choir, or the like.
Goals
Build confidence in self and in music knowledge (self, mind)
Inform girls through thoughtful analysis about change, patriarchal systems, and liberation (justice)
Exit the program knowing a new skill or improving upon an old one (music)
Foster a community of empowered girls* (community)
Perform at school talent shows and collaborate to put together a showcase/recital to show progress at the end of each quarter (opportunities, practicality)
Show significant emotional (intrapersonal/interpersonal) growth among peers
Encourage freedom of expression & artistic experimentation
